A restructure of the Helsby FC Board of Directors sees the appointment of Des Williams as Club Chairman with effect from 1st January 2025. Current Club Secretary Paul Nicholls adds the role of Vice-Chairman to his portfolio of responsibilities, and remains an ever-present club stalwart.
Williams brings with him a wealth of experience in a range of sports from grassroots football to international level basketball. He’s been instrumental in setting up academies that have produced several players who have gone on to play professionally, and he has strong links with a number of professional football clubs across Europe. His initial aim is to raise standards both on and off the field, to generate fresh investment through sponsors and commercial partners, with an ambition to lead the club’s First Team into the North West Counties Football League.
The new Board sees Justin Campbell appointed as Director of Women’s Football and Kelly Campbell appointed as Women’s Secretary and General Manager. John Taylor joins as Youth Football Director, while Digital4Trades owner Alun Owen has been invited onto the Board as a Non-Executive Director.
Williams explains: “I am immensely proud to be the new Chairman of Helsby FC and it will be a challenge, but extremely rewarding, to achieve our target of Helsby becoming a sustainable North West Counties club. Paul Nicholls has been the driving force behind this club for many years, and he deserves all the plaudits and credit for keeping Helsby going through some very difficult times. Together, I feel we can deliver a professional organisation and an infrastructure which will see us capable of operating at a much higher level and will do all I can to enhance the Youth and Women’s sections. I’m also looking forward to playing my part in our progression on the pitch and giving all the help I can to our managers and coaching staff and we now need to have a clear
player pathway to ensure our continued success, with the inclusion in our senior teams players who are products of our junior system”.
The future now begins.
